Bengaluru, 25 July

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda held a public consultation meeting with stakeholders over the proposed redevelopment of the KR Pura- Silk Board Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch and said that the State government had earmarked Rs 450 crore to address infrastructure bottlenecks along one City's busiest IT corridors, but was willing to expand it.

The meeting, held at Goldman Sachs' Helios Business Park in Kadubeesanahalli, was attended by representatives of the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), IT park owners, officials from various government departments and local residents.

Gowda said that the government aims to convert the 17.01km stretch into a “model mobility corridor”, and said the redevelopment would also include service roads, footpaths, stormwater drains, public transport connectivity, parking facilities and pedestrian safety measures.

Gowda presented an updated plan, and although the bulk of the vision remains the same, the GBA now aims to redesign every junction along the stretch differently, depending on its specific needs. Metro integration is key, he said.

The project may also be executed under an annuity payment model, under which contractors will maintain the roads for 10-12 years, with annual payments linked to road quality assessments.

“If you could not attend the consultation but would still like to share your suggestions, please write to pro.eastcitycorp@gmail.com,” Gowda posted on X.
